About The Company

​

Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet is an innovative dance production company that has been a part of the growing arts community in Greensboro, NC for the last 13 years! The company has produced 6 original, dance productions that uplift, inspire, and empower the community. It's unique structure uses dance as a tool to educate, engage, and spark conversation about various issues and topics. The company employs four resident choreographers: Willie Hinton, Amma Waddell, April Schweitzer, and Princess Johnson, an average of 8 - 10 professional dancers per year, plus 2 - 3 guest choreographers. Past guest choreographers have included Alicia Graf Mack (former lead dancer at Alvin Aiiley American Dance Theater), Tabia McKinzie, and Regina Tate.  Please note, the company is on hiatus with a goal to revive by January 2020. 

 

Qualifications

The company seeks qualified dancers to perform in various stage productions, community productions, and private contracts.  Qualified dancers must be 18 or older and will have ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance experience and training. No professional experience is required! Hip hop, Tap, Pointe, African, Horton, Graham and other dance techniques and styles are a plus! Male and female dancers are welcome.  

 

Audition Requirements

 

Candidates should email a 8x10 headshot (color or black and white) and a dance resume listing training, performance, and choreography experience. Also, please bring ballet, jazz, and other dance shoes. Hair must be pulled away from the face. Please wear form-fitting clothes.  Dancers will be chosen based on appearance, technique, performance skills, and professionalism.  We expect dancers who are positive and represent us well in the community, as you are the face of our company.

Company Culture

 

This is a part-time paid opportunity.  The main reason we decided to go on hiatus was to fulfill our obligation to pay dancers for their rehearsal AND performance time.  Too often in our area dancers are not paid for their studio time and we want to change this trend.  Rehearsals will be on average 4 hours a week, 2 times a week.  Company dancers will be paid $60 per week and $50 per performance. We will employ 4 company dancers per season.  Contracts would range from 18 - 36 weeks per year.

 

Our dancers are treated like royalty and are our most important employees as they are the essence of our company.  Perks include free technique and entrepreneurship classes, free fitness and nutrition classes, healthy snacks and beverages during rehearsal, meals for rehearsals 3 or more hours long, and lifelong friendships. We are a close-knit community and feel like a family.  We are looking for team players who are ready to push and be pushed to excel to new levels together.
