31 is a choreography collective to uplift, inspire, and empower women set to premier on October 3, 2015. Alicia Graf Mack, former lead dancer of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Founder of D(n)A Arts, our special guest choreographer along with lead choreographer, Princess Johnson, and up and coming choreographers from the community will produce new works inspired by Proverbs 31:10 - 31 as compared how women are represented in the media and entertainment industry.
A diverse group of women will be selected to participate in a community workshop on October 3 to discuss the image of women in our society and how they can become more like the woman described in the passage. They will also learn a dance to perform in the closing number of the show. This event will bring awareness to how the media and entertainment industry often degrades women and skews perceptions of women. This event will remind women of their self-worth and will change others' perception of women through the art of dance.
